- Macro lens: Micro Nikkor 60 mm 1:2.8 D
Lighting
- 1 x CN-126 LED Video Lighting (5400 K, 650 lx, diffusor filter)
- 2 x LED-5001 Video Light (5500 K, 700 lx, diffusor filter)
Digitization workstation - computer hardware and software
Computer hardware:
- Intel Core i7-870 CPU (8M Cache, 2.93 GHz)
- 8 GB RAM
- 2 x Western Digital WD5002ABYS-02B1B0 (500 GB, SATA2) RAID 0 HDD

- QUATO Intelli Proof 242 ex 24" proof monitor
- Handheld barcode scanner (USB)
Electric sample table (XYZ-Sample-Scanner):
- Software-controlled table (custom product by the Elektronikwerkstatt Universität Bayreut), automatically adjustable in three dimensions with micrometre precision by means of electrical stepping motors
Software:
- Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit
- Nikon Camera Control Pro 1.3.0
- Elub 0781 2.1 control software (custom product by P. Reiss, Elektronikwerkstatt Universität Bayreuth)
- PhotoAcute 3
- Adobe Photoshop 12.0.4
Digitizing server infrastructure
Storage server for images, image web publication server, web server, database server - at the SNSB IT Center
Digitizing workflow
- The object to be digitized is placed on the electric table
- Up to 24 single photographs are automatically taken by the Elub 0781 software thereby slightly changing the focus settings after each shot according to predefined parameters
- The single shots (RAW files) are further processed to one new image applying superresolution and focus stacking technologies provided by the Photo Acute software
- The resulting artificial image contains only that parts of the underlying single shots, which are in focus (focus stacking), and its resolution is enhanced approximately fourfold (superresolution)
- This final raw image file is colour-adjusted, cropped, and exported as TIFF in Photoshop
- Single shot raw files, combined raw file, and TIFFs are stored at the Leibniz Rechenzentrum München
